    What is BOTOX ?

    Women and men, our facial expressions lead to the formation of wrinkles over time. These wrinkles can make you look older, tired, stern, angry when this is not the case. Used since the 2000s in aesthetic medicine, botulinum toxin, also known under the trade name BOTOX or “Botox treatment”, is today one of the most effective treatments for reducing expression lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet and forehead without surgery.

    It also effectively reduces excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) of the hands and underarms. More than a wrinkle correction, botulinum toxin injections will allow you to prevent the intensification of wrinkles over time.

    Botulinum toxin injections are a benign and quick procedure, but require expertise in anatomy and physiology. This is why, for a natural result that is not “frozen”, it is important to choose a qualified doctors with real expertise in the field of facial muscles.

    How botulinum toxin works :

    Botulinum toxin also called BOTOX is a protein extracted from a bacterium that allow the relaxation of targeted muscles by partially and temporarily blocking their contractions.

    Small amounts are injected precisely into the desired areas to prevent and/or reduce visible and embarrassing facial expression lines. Botulinum toxin acts immediately on expression lines for an effect similar to a facelift, a rested, younger, harmonious and radiant appearance.

    After 3 to 8 months, the toxin dissipates naturally and the muscle recovers its full contraction capacity. This effect will last longer after several sessions. Because of the way it works, botulinum toxin injections can be a good natural alternative to plastic surgery.

    Botulinum toxin (known under the trade name BOTOX ) can be combined with hyaluronic acid injections to readjust muscle relaxation and to fill in lost volume and hydrate the desired areas (more details here).

    Main indications for Botox :

    BOTOX injection is primarily indicated to treat:

    • Crow’s feet (eye contours)
    • Forehead wrinkles: forehead wrinkles, glabella and frown lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows)
    • Raise the eyebrow to give back its intensity and radiance.
    • Eliminate upper lip wrinkles (periorbital) also called “bar code
    • Smoother skin and a lifting effect.
    • Redraw the contours of the face.
    • Bands in the neck (platysmal cords or baleen).
    • Fight against excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) of the hands and armpits.
    • Prevent the appearance and deepening of wrinkles in the long term.

    On the other hand, there is no Botox injections for the lips (to give volume to the lips, hyaluronic acid is used instead).

    Procedure of a BOTOX injection session:

    In our Alfa Laser centers, the injections are performed by a team of expert, recognized and reputable doctors with a perfect mastery of facial anatomy and a sharp artistic sense that allows them to target and erase your annoying wrinkles with a natural result, without freezing or altering the expressiveness of your face.

    We only use products that have been validated by our referring doctors, approved and produced only by American or European laboratories.

    During an initial consultation:

    The specialist performs a thorough clinical analysis of your face. He will observe your expressions, the mobility of your facial skin and will invite you to perform certain mimics to determine the areas to be treated according to your expectations. This analysis will also allow us to evaluate and adapt the dosage of the botulinum toxin according to your morphology in order to respect the expressiveness of your face.

    The Botox injection session is then performed in the center using extremely fine needles.

    • No special preparation or anesthesia is required.
    • The session is quick (between 25 and 45 minutes) and virtually painless.
    • The final results appear between 24 hours and 5 days after the injection session.
    • No social eviction is necessary, a slight redness may be temporarily noticed in the area of the injections during a few hours after the injection.

    We recommend that you do not massage the area targeted by the injection for a few hours to avoid dispersing the botulinum toxin anywhere other than the area.

    If necessary, a follow-up consultation can be scheduled 2 to 3 weeks after the injection.

    As a general rule, 1 to 2 sessions per year for 2 years are recommended to maintain the result. After that, the rhythm evolves towards a treatment every 12 to 18 months.

    Contraindications :

    We now have enough hindsight to consider botulinum toxin as a safe treatment, even if it does involve a certain number of precautions. The main risk of BOTOX is to accentuate or generate new expressions. This complication is however temporary.
